Kindergarten Readiness Program

In response to community demand, OCNS continues to offer Orange's first 5's
Kindergarten Readiness Program.
Prekindergarten is a time when children are making connections between what they know and what they are learning.  As they leave preschool and head towards Kindergarten, children are learning to participate in routines, demonstrate ability to make decisions and plan ahead.

The Kindergarten Readiness curriculum at OCNS is designed to help children continue to make decisions on their own and in the classroom.  We prepare four-to-five year olds for the next stage of their education while giving them a place to feel comfortable and safe to explore their interests.

Our holistic approach in the Kindergarten Readiness classroom engages young minds with the early learning fundamentals they'll need as they continue on to Kindergarten.  A rich blend of skills, interests and a love of learning are the key components of our program.

When creating a Kindergarten Readiness curriculum, we have looked to Common Core State Standards as well as early learning standards from the State of Connecticut.  These benchmarks helped inform the scope and sequence of our learning standards.

The six developmental domains included in our Kindergarten Readiness curriculum are:
  1. Cognitive Development
  2. Creative Expression
  3. Executive Function
  4. Language and Literacy Development
  5. Physical Development and Wellness
  6. Social and Emotional Development
